I’m a first-generation Filipino immigrant with a background in arts, storytelling, and community-centered work — and the creator of Say it in Tagalog.
For many of us in the diaspora, Tagalog lives in pieces —
For those raised between cultures, the relationship with the language can feel especially layered.
Some learned to understand Tagalog without ever feeling confident speaking it.
Others grew up in environments where assimilation, survival, or simply fitting in took priority.
Many quietly wonder whether they are “Filipino enough.”
Over time, (re)connecting with the language can become tied to pressure, shame, or the fear of getting things wrong.
WHY I BUILT SAY IT IN TAGALOG
I want this place to feel different.
Through my work in creative spaces, outreach, and Filipino-American cultural community work, I’ve seen how powerful language can be — not just for communication, but as a bridge to belonging, memory, identity, and home.
I created Say it in Tagalog to offer a gentler approach to (re)connecting with our language and culture. One rooted in conversation, creativity, curiosity, and emotional connection.
More than anything, I want this space to be a reminder: belonging can exist even before fluency.
Say it in Tagalog is my love letter to our language — and to the generations finding their way back to it.
My hope is that you leave this space feeling more connected to yourself, your roots, and the generations before you — whether you’re a fluent speaker or simply beginning your journey, one meaningful word at a time.
